
HSE University Signs Cooperation Agreements with Leading Chinese Universities
On May 8, 2025, in Moscow, in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, strategic agreements were signed between the HSE University and two of China's top institutions, Peking University and Tsinghua University. The event was attended by Nikita Anisimov, Rector of HSE University, Qiu Yong, Secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee, and Gong Qihuang, President of Peking University. The signing unfolded during the official visit of the Chinese delegation to Russia, coinciding with the commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of Victory Day.

HSE University's FCS Team Wins BSUIR Open Sports Programming Championship
On April 26, 2025, the student final of the 13th Open Team Championship in Sports Programming of Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics took place in Minsk (Belarus). More than 300 teams took part in the semi-final of the competition, while only 29 teams took part in the final, including three teams from HSE University, which ended up taking first, third, and fifth places.
‘The Trip Exceeded All Our Expectations’: HSE Students Take Part in BRICS Youth Innovation Summit 2025
The BRICS Youth Innovation Summit 2025 was held in Cape Town on April 10–11, 2025. The event was attended by political and business leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The summit focused on the theme ‘Innovating the Future: Technology for Sustainability and Social Good,’ under which the participants presented their projects. Artificial Intelligence Improves Risk Prediction of Complex Diseases
Neural network models developed at the HSE AI Research Centre have significantly improved the prediction of risks for obesity, type 1 diabetes, psoriasis, and other complex diseases. A joint study with Genotek Ltd showed that deep learning algorithms outperform traditional methods, particularly in cases involving complex gene interactions (epistasis). The findings have been published in Frontiers in Medicine.

‘I Hope I Will Be Able to Initiate New Research Projects at HSE University’
More than 10,000 scientific projects were supported by the Russian Science Foundation (RSF) in 2024. One of the grant recipients is Iranian scholar Dr Ahmad Ostovari Moghaddam, Assistant Professor at HSE MIEM. With the support of the RSF and HSE, he made the decision to remain in Russia long term.

HSE Tops University Ranking at X5 Tech Sprint Programming Championship
The X5 Tech Sprint is a championship in algorithmic programming. A total of 808 school pupils and university students from over 200 educational institutions across Moscow took part. HSE ranked first among universities in the overall participant leaderboard, and a student from the Faculty of Computer Science (FCS) achieved the best individual result.

HSE Scientists Win Prestigious International Prize in Fundamental Physics
The 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics has been awarded to the international collaborations of experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, including the LHCb collaboration, in which researchers from HSE University have participated.

The Digital Professors Programme: Five Years of Developing International Academic Collaboration
For the past five years, the Digital Professors programme has successfully brought leading international experts from foreign educational and research institutions, global companies, and organisations to HSE University to teach in a remote format. Applications to engage remote international scholars for the 2025/26 academic year are now open. HSE Vice Rector Alexey Koshel spoke about the results and distinctive features of the programme.
