On September 5th, 2019, HSE Day will take place in Gorky Park. This year, HSE research and education website IQ has prepared a surprise for the guests. IQ staff together with Irina Sirotkina, HSE visiting lecturer, are organizing a performance dedicated to mass Soviet dance.
HSE & adidas: Helping Clean the Planet of Plastic
On June 3, a meeting with Chris Thaller, Head of Creative Projects at Runtastic by adidas and founder of the Parley Foundation, who is involved in a project to gather and recycle oceanic plastic, will take place at HSE University.
Guest Lecture on Kropotkin’s Political Manifesto
On April 2, Sonia Arribas, Senior Lecturer at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, will give a talk as part of the seminar ‘West and East: Universalism of Culture’ at the HSE International Laboratory for the Study of Russian and European Intellectual Dialogue. In her talk, Sonia Arribas will map out the various functions of the symbol of ‘bread’ in Piotr Kropotkin’s The Conquest of Bread.
Fashion Futures Project at HSE Art and Design School
From October 29 to November 6, the HSE Art and Design School is hosting Fashion Futures – a series of open meetings, lectures and workshops with international fashion designers. For the second year in a row, globally renowned speakers are coming to the School to share their experience and discuss some real cases, as well as communicating their ideas on the fashion industry and education. We welcome not only fashion students of the Art and Design School, but anyone interested in fashion and willing to learn from some of the leading lights in the fashion industry. Admission to the events is free, and advance registration is required. Most talks will be in English
How HSE Popularizes Science
World Science Day for Peace and Development is celebrated on November 10. The day aims to promote research achievements and foster further research development. HSE puts great effort into popularizing research carried out at the university.

Bringing Research to the City
Within its 'University Open to the City' project HSE holds many different lectures and discussions at various city venues, such as Moscow museums and Cultural Centre ZIL. Following the successful experience of HSE Open Talks lectures at HSE Day in September for the last three years, the university launched HSE Talks, a regular English-speaking series of public lectures, held at a coworking cafe. From February to April five speakers from the Faculty of Social Sciences gave their public talks, and The HSE Look talked to one of them, Assistant Professor Ekim Arbatli, to learn more about her impressions from participating in the project.
HSE Talks Project Kicks Off
A series of lectures in English will be delivered by HSE faculty members at the ‘Socket and Coffee’ co-working space. The project offers its participants an opportunity to learn more about the most recent research findings and practice their English at the same time. The lectures start on February 28, 2017.
HSE Takes Part in St. Petersburg’s VK FEST
The Russian social network VK (Vkontakte) is holding a festival in St. Petersburg July 16-17. In addition to concerts by popular groups, sports events and a number of other attractions, visitors will be able to attend lectures by people including representatives of HSE and HSE Lab.
Thomas Piketty Delivers a Lecture at HSE
On November 26, Thomas Piketty, a famous French economist, delivered a lecture at HSE and presented the Russian edition of his best-selling book Capital in the Twenty-First Century. The event was organized by HSE Laboratory for Studies in Economic Sociology and Moscow Centre for Franco-Russian Research (Centre d’études franco-russe de Moscou - CEFR) with the support of French Embassy in Russia and French Institute (Institut Français).
