Cultural Events in Economic Reflection
From July 7 – 13, 2014, the Laboratory of Economics of Culture at the HSE in St. Petersburg held an International Summer School ‘Impacts of Cultural Events on Small and Medium-size Art-oriented Towns’ (ICE – SMART). This was the first summer school organized as part of the master’s programme ‘Experience Economy: Hospitality and Tourism Management’.
An Academic Approach to Cultural Tourism
The International Summer School, ‘Impacts of Cultural Events on Small and Medium-size Art-oriented Towns,’ has begun. Participants of the School include alumni of the Experience Economy: Hospitality and Tourism Management Master’s Programme, undergraduates and graduate students of HSE’s Moscow campus, as well as students, young lecturers and researchers from various universities in Poland, Slovenia, Kyrgyzstan, South Africa, and Japan.

Renowned American sociologist and political scientist, Professor at the University of Michigan and head of the HSE Laboratory for Comparative Social Research in St. Petersburg, Ronald Inglehart told the HSE news service about his research – the study of happiness.
HSE Signs Cooperation Agreement with the Vietnam Institute of Culture and Arts Studies
On June 27, the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg and the Vietnam Institute of Culture and Arts Studies signed a cooperation agreement. The groundwork for the agreement had been laid over a period of several months, since December 2013, when a delegation from the Institute first visited the HSE St. Petersburg campus.
Centre for Youth Studies Expands Cooperation in Scotland
For the third time the Centre for Youth Studies (CYS) at the HSE Saint Petersburg has participated in the Dalglish Visiting Fellowship, a programme of international cooperation in which scientists from SRC ‘Region’ and the Centre for Youth Studies receive training at CRCEES (Centre for Russian, Central and East European Studies) in Glasgow. In 2014, Elvira Arif, a CYS researcher, won the only position that is provided annually for Russian researchers within the programme.
Baltic Practice 2014: ‘Europe in Russia: Business, Culture, Values’
From June 28 to July 5, the ‘Baltic Practice 2014’ summer school will take place in Zelenogorsk near St. Petersburg. The school’s topic this year is ‘Europe in Russia: Business, Culture, Values’. The aim of the event is to address the cultural, social and ideological constructs that were created in cooperation with Europe and have become an integral part of Russian culture and identity.
Legends and Myths of Modern Economics
On June 11th, 2014 Tomáš Sedláček, Czech economist and author of 'Economics of Good and Evil' and 'Homo Economicus' gave a lecture at a joint seminar of the International Centre for Social and Economic Research 'Leontief Centre' and the HSE in Saint Petersburg.
