The conference was held in an online format and was dedicated to current trends in the development of modern linguistic and pedagogical knowledge. Over two days, more than 1,200 people took part.

HSE and BSU: Advancing Collaboration Across All Key Areas
On December 4, 2024, a delegation from the Belarusian State University (BSU) visited HSE. Key topics discussed during the meeting included prospects for expanding inter-university cooperation, BSU's entry into the ‘Human Well-being in the Digital Environment of Smart Cities’ consortium, and collaboration opportunities in pedagogy, social sciences, and humanities. The meeting, organised by HSE's internationalisation departments, aimed to identify potential areas of partnership and strengthen existing collaboration.
LFE-ICEF International Finance Conference: Exchanging Ideas and Building Networks
On November 22, 2024, the International Laboratory of Financial Economics (LFE, ICEF HSE) hosted the 13th International Moscow Finance Conference, bringing together researchers and experts from various countries to discuss current issues in financial economics. In his welcoming speech, Vladimir Sokolov, Head of the Laboratory, emphasised the significance of financial market research for the global economy.
‘We Need Our Own AI Models Trained on Local Data’
The digitalisation of the economy and the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies pose new challenges for antitrust authorities worldwide. Major players in the AI market, equipped with significant resources, can block new entrants and set anti-competitive prices. Additionally, the use of AI raises increasingly complex ethical questions for which the global community has yet to develop answers. These and other issues were discussed at the Third BRICS+ Digital Competition Forum.
Bringing Maths and Philosophy Together: Russian-Brazilian Project Explores Logical Pluralism
In late October and early November, HSE University hosted the Autumn School on ‘Logic and Formal Philosophy’ and a conference on logical pluralism as part of a collaborative project uniting Russian and Brazilian philosopher-logicians and mathematician-logicians. The project’s leaders and participants, Elena Dragalina-Chernaya, Itala Loffredo D'Ottaviano, Marcelo Esteban Coniglio, and Evandro Luis Gomes, shared their insights about the initiative.
A Dorm in a Palace, Tests without Grades, and Immersion in ML: Studies in Armenia under an HSE Mobility Programme

Russia and China: A New Cooperation Trajectory Developed at HSE University
A unique approach to measuring human well-being has been developed at HSE University, opening up new opportunities for international collaboration. Russia and China, both of which have significantly reduced poverty in recent years, demonstrate a unique potential for joint efforts in this area. At an international forum in Kazan titled ‘SPROUTS: Russia and China–Mutually Beneficial Cooperation,’ HSE University representatives, including Vice Rector and initiator of the Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Centre Lilia Ovcharova, and Deputy Vice Rector Maria Nagernyak, emphasised the importance of integrating the efforts of the two countries.

HSE Presents an Analytical Handbook on Africa for African Leaders
The HSE University Centre for African Studies has presented an English-language expert-analytical handbook titled ‘Africa 2025: Prospects and Challenges.’ For the first time, Russian experts have prepared a comprehensive work aimed at an African audience rather than Russian readers. The handbook incorporates a significant amount of new data and introduces new approaches for assessing development prospects. The presentation took place in Sochi on November 9, 2024, during the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum.
