Education news at HSE University

Addie Bacon, an American student from Smith College, who studies the Russian language and literature in the US. She had spent six months at HSE University St. Petersburg attending ‘Russian, Eurasian, and Post-Soviet Studies Programme’. Before she left to go back home we asked her a few questions about her experience studying and living in Russia.

The Higher School of Economics has entered the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) for the first time. The ranking is known for its strict selection criteria. This year, 12 Russian universities, including 10 participants of Project 5-100, entered the ranking. Until 2016, only 2 representatives of Russia were included- MSU and St. Petersburg State University.

Project cooperation between the HSE School of Business Informatics and the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool Rotterdam) started in 2016, and for the last two years, undergraduate students of Business Informatics have successfully participated in the development of information systems for Dutch companies.

The Higher School of Economics and WorldSkills Russia have agreed to join forces to develop professional competencies and implement international best practices into the vocational education system.

Last year, Vadim Drobinin graduated from the bachelor programme ‘Software Engineering’. Now, he works in London for an ambitious startup which promises to revolutionise the common internet search. Massimo D'Ascenzi came to HSE in Nizhny Novgorod from Viterbo (Italy) as part of the Erasmus+ programme. In this interview, Massimo speaks about the reasons for choosing the Higher School of Economics, about studying in Russia, and about what one has to learn first before coming to Russia.

Leandro Cassius, a recent graduate from HSE’s Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, has long been interested in languages and international affairs. He actually started learning Russian on his own when he was 14 years old and still living in his native Brazil. He would later spend a year taking a Russian course at Belgorod State University before being admitted to HSE.
